Trauma Informed Care
Life often provides unique and sometimes challenging situations that can create disconnection between the mind, body and spirit. We may not recognize an event or set of circumstances as being particularly traumatic, but the body can still register and hold the activation within the nervous system. This can lead to a breakdown of communication and function between the mind and body, and keep us operating within a framework that feels safe and controlled, even though that may not be the most supportive for our long term wellness.
Trauma-informed care gives people an opportunity to find empowerment in taking an active part in their recovery. It provides a lens with which both practitioner and client understand how a person’s entire life experience can have an effect on how they are living in the present. Seeking to prevent retraumitization, a space of trust and safety is created where one feels supported in making decisions related to their care, and subsequently, their life.
